?Life is hard. Then you die. Then they throw dirt in your face. Then the worms eat you.? For David Gerrold and many other people, death is as simple as this natural order, but for Fatima Zahra Alkadi, troubles began only after the death of her mother in the horrific road accident near Marrakech. Even though they are poor, the life of Fatima Azahra and her sister seemed smooth at the presence of their mother who spent her life eking out for a descent living. Now that her mother passed away and her baccalaureate certificate has been lost in ruins of the deadly bus crush, Fatima Zahra fears that her only wish ? to complete her studies in the university- will go up in smoke.

Despite the loss of her mother, which is undoubtedly painful for Fatima Zahra through her mournful voice, she looked, before the lens of a Moroccan TV channel, brave and determined. Her sparkling eyes reveals her bold character to carry on in her life towards her ultimate goal and fulfill her mother?s wish, which is simply the right to complete her academic studies in a department of English in the University of Marrakech. It may sound a trivial wish for many, but if we consider the circumstances of this young girl and her family?s very limited income, we will unquestionably identify with her miserable conditions and feel the tremendous challenges awaiting her.

With the death of Fatima?s mother, the bread winner, the family may be reduced to a hand-to-mouth existence with less than the thousand dirhams ($1,100) pension of their disabled grandfather which, her aunt believes, is not enough to pay his medicines, let alone afford the two girls a descent living and meet their studies requirements. Unfortunately, this is the case of many families in that remote region with its scorching sun and very limited local resources.

Dead people never come back, but is there any hope for Fatima Zahra, as her aunt puts it, ?to regain her lost certificate and be able to enroll in the university so that she can make her mother?s wish come true?? Actually, this is a serious question addreesed to the authorities in order to take some measures to give another chance for students whose documents were lost in the tragic accident to register in the university of kadi Ayad in Marrakech. Like Fatima Zahra, many other ?students from Zagora lost their study documents? as explained by Rizqo Brahim, the head of Zagora branch of the association for human rights.

?A friend who dies, it?s something of you who dies? said Gustave Flaubert. I say when the mother rests in peace the whole world ceases to exist except for brave aspiring young girls like Fatima Zahra, who are willing to pursue their dreams despite the tragedy that befell her.
