NASA PROBES TO MEASURE VAN ALLEN BELT'S IMPACT ON ...

ARTICLE: NASA mission could help protect GPS

NextGen holds great potential for improving air traffic efficiency and aviation safety. That potential may be limited by an unknown?the impact of the Van Allen Radiation Belt on the network of GPS satellites which provide locational integrity.

NASA, emphasis on the first A in its name, has launched a program to better understand this belt of radiation which impacts the operation of and communications to/from the GPS satellites. The data to be gathered from two probes will provide information about how to better insulate these circling instruments and to predict how the space ?weather? impacts the system?s communications.

Excellent initiative NASA!!!
