Pakistan skipper Mohammad Hafeez has vowed to continue counting on his spin attack as they gear up to take on Sri Lanka in the first semi-final of the ongoing World T20, at Colombo today.
While speaking to media reporters at the pre-match press conference, Hafeez credited slow bowlers for his side?s progress to the fourth successive World T20 semi-finals, and was confident the spin attack will help them outdo the hosts on Thursday.
?We as a team are blessed with some very good spinners and that's the main reason why we are doing well in this format,? said Hafeez, an off-spinner himself, on the eve of the match. ?Our spinners are of quality and they have proved it in every condition,? he added further.
Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene is confident his batsmen will efficiently counter Pakistan spin attack, come the first World T20 semi-final at R Premadasa Stadium, on Thursday.
Pakistan have been relying heavily on its spinners in the marquee tournament so far, and are expected to continue with the strategy in the knock out game. But it is being anticipated that Saeed Ajmal-led Pakistan spin attack might struggle against the Sri Lanka batsmen, who play spin well.
"We have played each other quite frequently and there have been good contests," said Jayawardene on the eve of the crunch game. "We have some quality guys and we play spin quite well. We need to make sure that certain things we execute, we execute it properly," he added further.
Veteran spinner Muttiah Muralitharan reckons Pakistan is the main obstacle between Sri Lanka and the World T20 trophy.
While speaking to media reporters on the eve of the first World T20 semi-final in Colombo, the legendary off-spinner said that Sri Lanka will have 90 per cent chances of winning the latest edition of the World T20 championship, if they could manage to defeat Pakistan on Thursday.
?If Sri Lanka beat Pakistan in tomorrow's semi-final in Colombo, they have a 90 per cent chance of winning the World Twenty20 title,? Muralitharan told the?Evening Standard?on Wednesday. It may be noted here that Sri Lanka have qualified for the tournament semis at the back of two wins and one defeat in the Super Eight stage, while the home side had finished that stage unbeaten and will be high on confidence.
